The Darnell Dinkins Era is Upon Us

by Alex

Yesterday, at training camp,
Tight end Darnell Dinkins caught a short pass and then spiked the ball off the helmet of top draft pick Kamerion Wimbley, who was defending on the play.
I smell a future "Obscure Brown of the Week" winner.

You guys forgot the best part of that story; Double D's quote "It was nothing personal. I tend to black out sometimes when I'm on the field." I have seen several pictures of Kamerion Wimbley, and I would say that if Dinkins isn't careful, Wimbley will make him black out for some time. Wimbley's pretty chiseled. Also, help me out....is it prounouced "Cameron" or "Ka-MEER-eon"? I seem to have heard it both ways??

I've always wanted to say /kəmerijən/ (kuh-MEER-ee-un), due to the stray "i" in "Kamerion". According to a couple of sources, the correct pronunciation is the more mundane /kæmərən/ (Cameron).

At least Dinkins is a guy who went from being a backup QB at Pitt to an NFL tight end, working his way up. Wimbley was described in predraft publications as a guy who was slow to follow plays and get off the mark. Someday, Wimbley may join "Big Money" and other Butch Davis draft picks as "obscure Browns".

Thanks to anonymous for my daily does of optimism!

I sort of like this gamesmanship and the rumble that broke out the other day - maybe these guys will be a feisty bunch this year.

When I went to camp it was pretty clear that Dinkins is the most jacked tight end. Heiden weighs a bit more, but I think that Dinkins is the strongest.

I also originally thought it was "Ka-MEER-ee-un.

Dinkins is better than many give him credit for. He will be important in short yardage situations as the number three tight end and is also one of those to fall under the category of "special teamer extraordinairre." Opposing teams shudder to think of a Dinkins/Unck combo on special teams.
